KOSHER COFFEE + DAIRY

A quick visual guide for shopping & preparing—based on mainstream halachic guidance you shared.

WHAT TO BUY

  • Unflavored beans/grounds in clean, kosher gear.
  • Flavored/decaf need reliable hechsher (esp. for Pesach).
  • Dairy to match your standard (e.g., Cholov Yisroel if kept).
Before bracha: Shehakol

LOOK FOR

  • Reliable kashrut symbols on milk/creamers & on flavored/decaf coffee.
  • For Pesach: KP labels for dairy, decaf, and any additives.
  • Clear ingredient panels—avoid cereal-derived flavors on Pesach.

KITCHEN RULES

  • Use dairy-dedicated pitchers/steam wands—or clean thoroughly between uses.
  • No cross-contam from uncertified flavored beans/syrups.
  • After-bracha depends on drinking a shiur in time; many sip without it.

SHABBAT SETUP

  • Pre-boil in an urn before Shabbat; keep hot.
  • On Shabbat: pour to kli sheni (many prefer kli shlishi), then add coffee & milk.
  • No grinding/cooking; don’t add unboiled water to the urn.
Summary for quick reference; local practice varies—ask your rav for personal psak. Topics covered: kashrut • dairy • Shabbat prep • Pesach notes
